John Marshall Harlan papers, 1884-1972 (bulk 1953-1970)

Consists of papers of Harlan (Princeton Class of 1920) separated into two main groups: 1) his position as associate justice (1955-1971) of the Supreme Court is represented by case files containing memorandas, drafts, printed opinions (1953-1970) from the U.S. Court of Appeals (2nd Circuit), law clerks files, and other papers arranged by October terms from 1954 to 1970; 2) selected correspondence (1890-1971) contains letters, case files, and related materials concerning his years in private law practice (1925-1954), as special assistant attorney general (1928-1930) for the State of New York, and as chief counsel for the New York State Crime Commission (1951-1953).
